Gas Grills question by Tara: Quick easy question about gas grills?
We have a gas grill, which I haven’t used but the other people who live with me have. It is attached to a big gas tank. With the gas tank you turn the knob to open it up. What I’m wondering is do I open the gas tank up first for a little bit and then turn on the grill to let it heat up or what?

To light a BBQ, you make sure the gas valves to the burners are turned off, you then open the valve to the tank, turn on one of the burners (sometimes there’s a main one you’re supposed to light first), and light it either with a built-in igniter or one of those long BBQ lighters. Repeat for the other burners, if they have separate gas control knobs. You then adjust the flame (usually to the highest setting) and let the BBQ heat up for about 10 minutes prior to using it. Adjust the flame according to what you’re cooking (higher for something like a steak or hamburger, lower for something like chicken or thicker pieces of meat).
