Outdoor Grills question by buddylee: How long to Grill Filet Mignon on Outdoor Grill? Almost 2inches thick?
Tonight we are trying to grill filet mignon on the outdoor grill…they are almost 2 inches thick and want to ask your expert opinions! Any suggestions will be SO MUCH appreciated! We do not want to butcher (HA) such a nice piece of meat! 🙂 Thank you in advance for your suggestions!

When it was carried out, I thought the simple part would be lighting it for the initial time. Hmmmmm. Not so considerably. The ignition didn’t function at all. It still doesn’t function. I think Weber 586002 will make excellent on it, but I haven’t had time to work with them over the phone. The grill tends to run hot. Perhaps the low dome keeps in much more heat than a big, square dome. I must keep a close eye on the food to ensure that it does not get over cooked. It depends on how well you like it cooked. A fillet is normally cooked med. rare, but tastes vary. The cooking time will vary depending on how hot you have your flame and if you’re using gas, charcoal, or wood. Don’t cook it at too high of a temp, or it will char the outside, and the inside won’t be done enough. Cooking at a lower temp. will also make the steak more tender.

It depends on how hot your fire is. Direct heat if you can hold our hand above the fire for one second its about 350-375 Fareheit. I would cook the meat for 5 minutes the first side and five minutes the other side. Medium rare is the way to go. Anymore would be injustice to such a fine piece of meat.

my most favorite dipping sauce is chimi churri.

Chimichurri Sauce:
1 bunch fresh flat-leaf parsley, finely chopped
2 bay leaves
6 cloves garlic, minced
1 1/2 teaspoons smoked paprika
1 tablespoon fresh oregano leaves, finely chopped
1/2 cup red wine vinegar
1 1/2 cups extra-virgin olive oil
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

Place the parsley, bay leaves, garlic, paprika, oregano, vinegar, olive oil, salt, and pepper in a food processor. Pulse until combined. Put the sauce in a glass or plastic container, using as needed. Chimichurri will last for up to 1 month, refrigerated. Makes 2 1/2 cups.

At $ 16.99 per pound up here, it is the meat I like nearly rare.

I have not barbequed my mignon steaks, but on a regular charcoal grill, I would do each side until it is very torched; time is relative to the heat of the coals/flame. Then move the meat off the main flame for no more than one minute. I like my Filet Mignon almost rare, just warm to the very center. It is tender until you overcook it!

Slice one piece at the center when the outside is charred. If the meat does not look done to one’s preference, cook more and check a minute later, etc.
